Public Outreach

Outreach to diverse audiences and knowledge valorization are an important aspect of my academic work. I enjoy the challenge of making my research accessible and reflecting on its relevance beyond academia. The questions I receive from diverse groups — including children, dialect speakers, and language teachers — offer fresh perspectives that, in turn, inspire my future research.

Children’s Book

Together with illustrator Léonie Smith, I created the bilingual children’s book Zing je mee? – Singst du mit?. The book translates my article Singing in semiotic assemblages. Pre-schoolers’ use of songs in interaction into a fun and engaging format that is accessible to toddlers.

Talks

I regularly speak at events for different target groups. Examples include:

• Cultuurcentrum deBuren, Brussels, where I discussed language attitudes with Gunther De Vogelaer at the Colloquium Neerlandicum (2025)
• Streektaalsymposium “Plat veur Potwottels”, where I was an invited panelist at the Erfgoedcentrum Achterhoek en Liemers (2023)
• UM WizzKidz Summercamp, where I gave a workshop on multilingualism for children (2022)

Popularizing Publications

In my popularizing publications, I aim not only to share research findings, but also to make research processes visible. Examples include my blog Taaldiversiteit op de kinderopvang on taalwijs.nu, and my contribution to The Stories We Tell and its Dutch edition Van bang in de Bijlmer tot blij met de tandarts, edited by Elsje Fourie and Christin Hoene.
